Doing the Right Thing

'Doing the right thing' without having the right relationship with God and therefore demonstrating that right relationship with others, does not accomplish what ‘doing the right thing’ was supposed to accomplish. It negates what God has said when we don’t make full use of what (all) He has given us to deliver and to apply HIS correction wherever needed.

The primary goal of forgiveness is to bring us back into right position and relationship with God. It is not to bring us back into the right position with a person, for when we sin, we sin only against God—even if our behavior is towards another. When we forgive without also understanding that it is God’s way and God’s love that are the governing standards for our lives, our forgiving will only amount to doing the right thing. Yes, we’ve ‘forgiven’ the person, but God’s governing standard of love cannot produce in us what it was supposed to produce unless and until we forgive because of our relationship and our love for God.

Every benefit of forgiveness comes from God. Let’s realize this and ‘do the right thing’ because we really love Him.

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Romans 8:5-6
